Coca-Cola and Pepsi have been battling for control of the territories for more than 100 years. A story that began in 1886 when Dr. John Stith Pemberton invented a syrup in Atlanta called Coca-Cola. Only eight years later, Pepsi came into being, created by Caleb Bradham, another pharmacist based in New Bern, North Carolina.

With large investments in advertising and a powerful distribution network, Pepsi became the favorite beverage in the United States. Coca-Cola did not stay behind and began to counterattack to regain market share. A battle that peaked in 1975 when Pepsi launched the “Pepsi Challenge” and won Coca-Cola in a blind taste test.

We reviewed Pepsi’s five best advertising advertisements throughout its history.

The history of Pepsi begins in 1893 in New Ber, North Carolina. Caleb Bradham, a pharmaceutical chemist, devised this drink to help digestion and act  as a stimulant. Known at the beginning as the “Brad Drink”, it was a mixture of carbonated water, sugar, pepsin, nut extract, vanilla and “strange oils”. In 1898 Brad would rename his star drink combining the words of Pepsina and Cola. The Pepsi-Cola was born.

After some crisis and changes of ownership, during the Great Depression it became the second most famous soft drink in the world behind Coca-Cola. Thanks to aggressive promotions such as offering double the Pepsi-Cola for the same price (a 12-ounce bottle for only 5 cents) it got a very positive response from consumers.

They started with ‘Iconic Moments’ and now they continue with ‘Feel Light’ to promote the Pepsi Light.It is a minimalist graphic campaign with a huge creativity, the result of a creative work that, unfortunately, we see less every day. Now, the advertising campaigns are adaptable to digital media to get more engagement and we lost little jewels as this one.

Creativity that can transmit much more than a campaign on social networks; that allow us to transmit the message with a few elements in order to capture the attention of the consumer. It’s what Pepsi’s latest graphic campaign titled ‘Feel Light’ gets.
